- Marketplace: An online platform which merchants sell on using their own store name. e.g. Amazon, eBay.
- Fulfillment Channel: An online platform which merchants sell on but not with their own store name. e.g. Overstock.
- International Channels: Includes international marketplaces and international fulfillment channels.
- Daily Deal Site: A website that offers a single product for sale for a period of 24 to 36 hours. e.g. Groupon.
- Website: Your own eCommerce website that you sell products on – www.yourstore.com.
- Merchant Fulfilled: Orders which you ship from your warehouse(s) or via a 3PL.
- Dropship: Orders fulfilled and shipped directly from a third party Vendor to the buyer.
- Just-in-Time: Is an inventory strategy that manufacturers use to increase efficiency. The process involves ordering and receiving inventory for production and customer sales only as it is needed to produce goods, and not before. This type of inventory management provides many benefits, but is not without its downsides, relies heavily on factors such as automation and a strong, fast & efficient network of suppliers.
- 3PL: 3rd Party fulfillment. Someone else receives, inventories, and ships your products for you.
- Cross-docking: This is a practice of unloading materials from an incoming shipment and shipping out directly with little or no storage in between.
